📝 List of sacrifices for 2022
I was finishing up with my list of goals for 2022 this week, and it hit me. For every goal that I want to achieve, I have to put something I'm willing to sacrifice this year to make room for it.
That's a simple concept. If you want to spend more money on your hobbies this month, you need to cut your budget on something else, right? But this is particularly true for goals. You won't get anywhere without sacrifices.
I've tried to analyze that retrospectively with my 2021 goal. This year I've completed three out of four:
💵 Increase my capital by XX% – fail
What was I not willing to sacrifice to do that? My mental health. I could have easily achieved that, but I decided to leave my job and take a sabbatical. That was the price I paid for not making that goal.👨🏻💻 Launch at least one pet project – done
I launched the Morning Walk newsletter. What did I sacrifice to do that? That's easy. Some sleep on Saturday nights (I sometimes stay until 2-3 am to turn in the issue before 8 am) and some video gaming time.
🏄🏻♂️ Spend a lot of time wake surfing this summer – done
I went nine times this summer, quite a lot for me. What did I sacrificed? Time in front of the computer and some money.
🌊 Go on a seaside vacation with Dad – done
I had a chance to stay at home by myself for a whole week and just enjoy some solitude. But I wanted to spend quality time with my Dad (I've been putting this off for a few years now), so that was my sacrifice.
I wasn't fully aware of those sacrifices back then, but it makes perfect sense now. You can't achieve your goals without making sacrifices, and you should plan for these too.
What should I let go of in 2022 to achieve my goals? I've planned three goals in 2022 for myself, and here is what I’m consciously willing to let go of.
🚀 Launch my own company
Sacrifices: forget about financial stability, be prepared for lack of sleep and the feeling of uncertainty.
🧠 Get back into therapy, find therapist I'm going to stick to
Sacrifices: allocate some budget, cut down on restaurants and fancy pointless purchases.
🌳 Spend a lot of time close to nature
Sacrifices: spend less time geeking out in front of a computer, cut down on information consumption.

This useful paper suggests we might be too scared of team conflict
I'm super scared of any team conflict and trying to avoid it as quickly as possible. But this intriguing new paper suggests that team conflict might be a good thing.
When 1 or 2 people on the team disagree with team direction, it increases performance since dissent pushes the team.
Most team conflict doesn’t spread. 75% of the time conflict either shrinks or stays stable
An Exact Breakdown of How One CEO Spent His First Two Years of Company-Building
Sam Corcos, the CEO of Levels, has tracked every 15-minute increment of how he spent his time for two years. This is a super detailed breakdown review, including dynamic changes (e.g., networking is down since he doesn't have to fundraise now for some time).
What Should Airbnb Launch in 2022?
Brian Chesky, the CEO of Airbnb, asked on Twitter:
This article lists some of the fascinating ideas alongside replies from Brian. But I especially like what Brian did here – asking his audience for new ideas.
That’s it for today. Thanks for reading. Until next week 👋🏻
Really enjoyed this one. Love the style of your newsletter, trying something similar on mine. Most enjoyed the CEO one, what an insightful read!
